With diabetes and rheumatism feet are at increased risk. Always mention it when booking; different rules apply.
With diabetes, sensation in the feet can decrease and circulation can reduce. You therefore notice a wound later and it heals more slowly. What is a scratch on a healthy foot can become a serious problem.
With rheumatism the position of the toes and the pressure distribution under the foot often change. That creates new pressure points, corns in unusual places and callus that returns faster, while trimming yourself becomes harder because of the hands.
For feet at increased risk the medical pedicurist is the appropriate practitioner. Patty is a qualified medical pedicurist. Tell her what is going on when you book and she will say honestly what she can do in your situation and when referral is better.
With diabetes, check your feet daily, including between the toes, and do not use corn plasters, callus acids or foot baths that are too hot.
