An ingrown toenail starts small: an edge that pricks into the skin. If it stays there, the skin becomes red, swollen and tender and inflammation can follow. Usually the cause is the way the nail is trimmed, shoes that are too tight, or a nail that naturally curves strongly.
Patty frees the nail edge and removes what is pressing into the skin. The relief is often immediate. You then get an explanation of how to trim the nail from now on, because half the problem lies in the trimming: cut straight across and do not round off the corners.
If the toe is already badly inflamed, with pus or persistent redness, that belongs with your GP. Patty will say honestly when that is the case and will not treat what she should not treat.

Picking at it usually makes things worse, because a spike is left behind that grows in again. Have it freed and then cut straight across.
With pus, throbbing pain, persistent redness or fever. That indicates inflammation and a doctor should look at it.

Cut straight across, no shorter than the tip of the toe and do not round off the corners. File the sharp edges smooth afterwards.
