What is the difference between a pedicurist and a medical pedicurist?

In depthReading time: 3 minutes

A pedicurist cares for the foot completely. A medical pedicurist is additionally trained to treat feet at increased risk, for instance with diabetes or rheumatism.

The explanation

A qualified pedicurist cleanses and disinfects, trims and finishes the nails, removes callus, treats corns and cracks and frees an ingrown nail edge. She also looks at the cause: the footwear, the position of the foot and the way of trimming.

The medical pedicurist additionally has knowledge of conditions, of assessing risk and of techniques such as nail braces and pressure relieving aids. With feet at increased risk a small wound is a big risk, and that calls for a different judgement.

Patty completed her pedicure training in May 2024 and has since qualified as a medical pedicurist. Complete foot care is always possible; mention when booking if something is going on.

Patty's advice

A good practitioner also says when something belongs with your GP. Anyone claiming to treat everything is not who you want to be sitting with.
