In summer, open footwear, bare feet and pool floors cause more cracks, callus and fungus. Alternating and drying properly solves most of it.
A flip flop has no heel counter, so the heel pad can expand freely outwards with every step. That is one of the main causes of cracked heels in summer. Wear flip flops for what they are meant for and choose a shoe that encloses the heel for longer walks.
On a terrace, a tiled floor or a wooden deck your sole takes every impact without cushioning. The body answers with extra callus on the pressure points. So do not walk barefoot indoors all day.
Pool floors and shared showers are where athlete's foot spreads. Wear pool sandals, dry your feet properly after swimming and do not forget between the toes; moisture lingers longest there.
Book a treatment a week before your holiday. Any tender spot will then have settled before you set off walking.
