Risdam is a spacious residential district in the west of Hoorn, with plenty of low rise housing, greenery and a mixed population of young families and people who have lived there since it was built. From the practice on the Botter you are there in a few minutes.
There is a lot of cycling and walking in Risdam, along the water and through the parks. That is good for fitness but loads the forefoot, certainly in shoes with little cushioning. Callus under the ball of the foot and pressure points on the toes are the most common complaints here.
Residents who have lived there a long time are now somewhat older, and that is exactly when trimming yourself gets harder. Patty visits Risdam at home for €5 on top of the practice rate (excluding travel costs), or you come to the Botter.
Anyone walking a lot along the water here does well to alternate between two pairs of shoes. The same shoe every day means pressure on exactly the same spot every day. Moisturise in the evening with a cream containing five to ten per cent urea and keep the space between the toes dry; that is where athlete's foot starts.
Yes. The Botter is in a residential street with parking outside, so you do not have to go into the old centre.
Usually less than ten minutes. If you prefer not to drive, Patty comes to you for €5 extra.
