You prevent callus by removing the pressure that causes it and by keeping the skin supple. Removing it without addressing that is mopping with the tap running.
Callus forms where the skin is repeatedly loaded in the same place. It is not a disease but protection: the body builds a thicker layer on the spots that absorb the impact. It only becomes a problem when that layer gets so thick that it presses or tears.
The most important measure is in your shoes. Enough width so the toes can spread, enough height in the toe box, and a sole that absorbs impact instead of passing it on. Alternate shoes daily so the pressure shifts and the skin gets a rest.
Daily moisturising with a cream containing five to ten per cent urea also helps. Urea binds moisture in the horny layer, keeping the callus soft so it hardens and tears less easily. Use a foot file on the thickest spots after showering now and then.
Stay away from sharp blades and callus acids. The risk of a wound is high and a wound on the foot heals slowly.
